Several projects have been discussed including using UNINUM directly as IPv6 addresses. The target was to provide users with a numbering plan namespace. It was first in the pre-IUCG and pre-IDNA2008 context. In the new context the UNINUM project and utilisation is greatly simplified and compatible but independant from any infrastructure or protocol.

The plan is structured as follows:

4 bit NPN + 60 bit Number + 64 bit Private ID

  • NPN to be jointly defined as a private use area in the IPv6 structure.

  • Number:
  • numerics: International Telephone Numbers
  • hexadecimal: to be jointly defined

  • Private ID:
  • numerics: ID6
  • hexadecimal: GRID6. Structured grids.
